Emergency medical evacuation cover for professional hunters a first for South Africa
The Custodians of Professional Hunting and Conservation – South Africa and SATIB Insurance Brokers, recently reached an agreement to offer emergency medical evacuation insurance as part of an exclusive membership benefit to professional hunters that are members of the Custodians.
This agreement includes access to SATIB24 Crisis Call, for all Custodians members and their staff with membership, for injuries and incidents incurred whilst providing services to their clients, whether in camp or actively on the hunt.
Custodians CEO, Mrs. Adri Kitshoff-Botha, says, this is a unique opportunity for persons in the hunting and wildlife sector, to enjoy the benefit and protection of comprehensive emergency medical evacuation cover that is not readily available elsewhere in Africa. “This a first for the professional hunting industry in South Africa and as Custodians, we are proud to announce this product! “
SATIB, a well-recognized insurance advisor for the tourism sector in South Africa and Africa as the whole, has been providing evacuation and medical cover for well over a decade. In 2015, provision was made for members of the Game Rangers Association of South Africa (GRAA) and other groups in the African Parks network.
Mr Andre du Toit of SATIB says this agreement with the Custodians, provides peace of mind to the professional hunting sector, that expert emergency assistance will be available anywhere in Africa. “We support those who protect and rejuvenate wilderness landscapes across Africa. Our product is tailor-made to suit the needs of people that work in these remote wilderness or conservation areas”
Through its expert remote incident management and evacuation services, SATIB has a history of success in this sector.
SATIB’s incident management includes the SATIB24 Crisis Call which offers:
- emergency evacuation and repatriation
- medical emergency

Mrs Kitshoff-Botha says the benefit of this emergency cover by a reputable provider gives Custodians’ members peace of mind, knowing that, for the first time, the day to day inherent risk in the field and lodgings is now covered.
She explained that Custodians annual membership fees includes SATIB cover in two options: Essential in-country coverage and Premium All-Africa coverage. The Essential In-country option, will cover the cost of evacuation from the point of incident to a hospital or airport within that specific country. The more comprehensive Premium All-Africa option includes evacuation from the point of incident to a hospital within another country.
